 * Seems your config is wrong. I’ve network-enabled it and the plugin works perfectly
   in Multisite for me out-of-the-box.

   means is that you can’t configure it for the entire network under “Network Admin.”
   You have to configure it individually for each individual multisite website which
   is very time-consuming if you have dozens of multisite websites that you want
   it configured for which is the case for one of my clients.
 * The alternative is to use WP Mail SMTP by WPForms which does allow configuration
   under Network Admin to set it up for all the multisite websites at once.
