When I change the URL to ‘articles’, and then click ‘update’, the page gets renamed to articles-2.

I’ve tried following this process, but that has not fixed the issue.

It’s as if there’s another page somewhere called ‘articles’, so this one has to be saved as ‘articles-2’. But there are only three pages, and none have a name close to this one.

Can you help, please?

Usually when WordPress appends the “-2” to a slug, that means you still have the old content by the same name, probably in the trash, draft, etc. If so, try emptying it. Also try reviewing https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/permalink-keeps-adding-2-to-new-pages/?view=all

I’ve checked and I don’t have anything in the trash, or drafts. I have noticed, however, that if I enter https://thetravelwriter.co.uk/articles it takes me to my homepage. But if I enter https://thetravelwriter.co.uk/other it takes me to a ‘That page can’t be found’ page.

So it’s as though https://thetravelwriter.co.uk/articles ‘maps to’ my home page if that makes sense? Is there a setting for that kind of thing that I’m missing somewhere?

Try asking at your theme’s dedicated support.

Did you do something to the “permalinks” or “reading” in settings?
