Hey Dholu!
Thank you for your feedback, I’m noting all of this down for enhancements. I’m planning on getting some YouTube videos up as well about a lot of this.
I haven’t automated the JSON rebuild on a new Read being created/updated on purpose, but I might change that. I’m also planning on releasing another Bookshelf block that doesn’t use the JSON, but that’s in the works.
I’ll check into Lightspeed Cache (not a plugin I’ve heard of), but I would assume that you’d be able to point to the REST API/JSON call and disable it from being cached. The plugin was actually built to be used in a static environment with the Simple Static plugin, so ignoring that should work for the cache (after the JSON has been rebuilt, of course 😅). The idea with the new block is that no JSON regeneration will be necessary.
Definitely more screenshots and tutorials coming…
Thank you so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it. 🙂
Hi again, sorry, I marked this as “resolved”, it’s not yet resolved, but wanted to let you know I’ll follow up when the new features are implemented.
Hi Nate,
Thanks for replying back! I am with you on this. Keep the amazing works up!
I have another feedback for you:
At first i configured the showcase to link them to the Amazon weblink, which works fine. But then i tried to not use the Amazon link as a click option and hoped that it would bring them to the read page or something.
Instead its bringing me to a 404 page. I am guessing an internal page should be accessible like the “Reads” page itself. Don’t really know.
I have tried everything with cache. Haven’t succeeded yet.
Would be helpful if you guide me through it.
Regards.
Hey Dholu, I’m traveling at the moment without my computer, but can you try going to Settings >> Permalinks, and clicking the Save button (don’t change anything there). That should reset your permalinks and hopefully get your Reads custom post type updated. Let me know if that works. If not, I can look into this next week.
Hey Dholu,
Just wanted to check in with you on this.
Version 0.2.6 includes updates for the CSV file upload and downloading, and a settings option to automatically regenerate the JSON file that gets created.
Also, checking with caching, and I think specifically the Lightspeed Cache plugin, you should be able to exclude the following URLs from the cache:
/wp-json/my-reads/v1/all-the-reads
/wp-content/uploads/my-reads/all-the-reads.json
I’ll be adding this to the Read Me instructions as well.
Let me know if you have any questions, and how things are fairing. Please feel free to share a link to your site as well so I can see your My Reads bookshelf 🙂.
Cheers,
Nate
Awesome! this sounds really good. Addition to the readme will be really good.
My greed has kicked in. Now i’d also like to see a similar plugin for Movies and Video games hahah. sorry… got carried away.
