Just installed the new WP 2.5 and I am far from impressed.

The new editor is absolute crap.

In fact it’s crappier than the last one.

At least with the previous version we could add Tiny MCE advanced to get it working properly.

Now we can’t even do that.

The editor is simplistic in the extreme with not even any moderately advanced functions to use.

As for the statement in the official WP blog that the new editor won’t mess with your code, it’s absolute BS.

It will continually mess with your code, even after you’ve fixed it in html and saved it.

It’ll keep ripping out whole swaths of your code for no apparent reason.

    It’s bloody annoying.

Why were forced to use such a crappy editor and with no alternatives like Advanced Tiny MCE to fall back on I don’t know.

I know the WP crew have spent a whole lot of time and effort on the new version, but to spend so much time only to produce something inferior seems unimaginable.

Sorry guys but your eally blew this part of it.

    – Switching between code and normal layout seems to lose the info you’ve typed in.

In case anyone is reading this, I have one minor complaint/suggestion.

In prior versions, when you highlighted text in the editor and then clicked the link button (to insert a link), the popup dialog had the “http://” highlighted, so all I had to do was hit Ctrl+V to paste over it.

In 2.5, it is not highlighted, so when, due to habit, I automatically paste in the field, it reads http://http://…

It is a minor annoyance, yes, but an annoyance nonetheless. Am I the only one that has this problem?

(I didn’t feel the need to start a new thread for this so I tacked it on here. If I shouldn’t have, I apologize.)

Maybe someone will reskin the editor to put the post options back into the righthand column, where they belong.

The new widget admin is a nightmare also–you only see one sidebar at a time, and you can no longer drag to remove widgets.

Had I known, I would have stuck with 2.3.

I agree, they released 2.5 too fast without looking at the features that WORKED for most of the WP community! Some like it – but most dont.

If I’d been able to “test drive” WP 2.5 – I’d never have upgraded.

There have been WordPress demo sites available for quite a long time. One of the most well publicized ones is http://wp.chrisjohnston.org . It’s still up and running the latest alpha code right now.

There were also two pre-release candidates available that you could have installed on a separate site to test with.

And so far, this is actually one of the best upgrades we’ve had yet. The number of issues and people complaining in the forums is WAY lower than it was when 2.3 came out. I was expecting much more.

is there any chance that they would move some of the fields at the bottom to the empty right column? like author and categories :p

yes yes I confirm it it’s really a disaster – see here http://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/165575
I think that if I go to the forests, I have less possibility to get lost (thanks to sounds and smells) 🙂
the editor of wp 2.5 is worse! 🙂

hey there – i just finished posting an ecstatic review of WP 2.5, but after having run it through the W3C validator, i’ve had to retract some statements. specifically, my site passed xhtml/508/wai with 2.4 and below. after i upgraded yesterday, every single page outputs bloody red code and doesn’t validate (cept for the homepage, which has been endlessly tweaked). the thing is i get the same error every time… either <p> is open and </p> is missing or vice versa, which spits out endless xml parsing errors like a domino effect. does anybody else have this problem and/or have a solution? any help is much appreciated

I agree with the very annoying move done to Categories. I prefer to have everything in the right sidebar instead of having to scroll for it.

I also have a pet peeve with the main Dashboard page; is there a way to get Latest Posts to show instead of Comments et al, or am I missing a widget somewhere?

Wow. You guys are being kind. I “expressed myself” fully, and then I went over to a blog I always read and they were all praising the hell out of 2.5. And you know what? I said my opinion, but they all wanted to agree with what the big time blogger said & agreed it was “great.” But I didn’t respond because it occurred to me they were looking at 2.5 not actually using it. Because the minute you USE it, you see the problems. IMMEDIATELY.

horizontal rules always act weird with wordpress and tinymce.

makes “<hr>” code into “<hr />” code automatically, for one…dunno if its different at all, but then usually it’ll take away a space from right below and add a space later on in the post.

@gideonstrumpet – Yes. A minor annoyance, but it definitely ought to be changed.
