Just installed the new WP 2.5 and I am far from impressed.

The new editor is absolute crap.

In fact it’s crappier than the last one.

At least with the previous version we could add Tiny MCE advanced to get it working properly.

Now we can’t even do that.

The editor is simplistic in the extreme with not even any moderately advanced functions to use.

As for the statement in the official WP blog that the new editor won’t mess with your code, it’s absolute BS.

It will continually mess with your code, even after you’ve fixed it in html and saved it.

It’ll keep ripping out whole swaths of your code for no apparent reason.

    It’s bloody annoying.

Why were forced to use such a crappy editor and with no alternatives like Advanced Tiny MCE to fall back on I don’t know.

I know the WP crew have spent a whole lot of time and effort on the new version, but to spend so much time only to produce something inferior seems unimaginable.

Sorry guys but your eally blew this part of it.

  • I don’t hate the editor, but the more I use it the more problems I am having. An example is when trying to insert images already uploaded a few months ago, it just hangs.

Strange about all this is I updated 4 blogs to 2.5. One of them works perfectly (all hosted at the same place so all the backend software must be the same).

The only difference is I used the Fantastico to update 2 of the blogs.

The point is, somewhere there are strange problems with the editor (the Visual part suddenly stopped working on 3 of the blogs and I had to use a plugin …).

The reason to mention all this is not to complain, but simply to say there are bugs and work needs to be done for a 2.5.2 or whatever.

Having used WordPress for over a year now, I was impressed by its lack of bugs – I never had to install a plugin to get something (which worked one day and stopped the next) to work.

For those of us with very little time to experiement, read all forums etc., we really need something to work out of the box. (Which is why I waited for my hosts Fantastico version as I had hoped they had seen if there were any immediate problems with the very first 2.5 release.)

Anyway, I am looking forward to some quick fixes in an upcoming release since I have to write some posts 🙂

My users cannot use the new WYSIWYG editor, It is to confusing and they donnot have the time to look up solutions. I cannot even disable the flash uploader. the plugin does not work.

Can I go back to the old editor? becouse at the moment my site is useless, no one can figure out how to insert documents properly, or edit posts.

Sorry about double posting, but I thought I should show you one of the comments I have been emailed.

    Good evening Dave,
I have been trying to maneuver through our website and either amend text or add a form to an existing post and I am finding that our website is less user friendly now than ever before. I know I am kind of dense, but it shouldn’t be this challenging. I don’t have enough time to keep messing about. Is there any way we can get this back to a more user friendly format, especially with uploading documents?

If not, I loathe to admit that I won’t be able to continue as it is far too time consuming and with working on the DA Executive, time is critical……

    Thanks big guy!

Please fix this issue, you should not have to be a coding expert to post stuff to your blog.

authors, comment and pingback settings can easily be moved in the right column…

categories too needs to be placed on the right side.

I agree with that. The right side is pretty empty and it could save scolling.

I just finished writing a detailed post on the Write Screen and related admin back-end design issues yesterday:

WordPress 2.5.x Design Issues: Why I am staying with my 2.3.3 “Renegade”

It has an annotated screen-shot of 2.5 that explains what is wrong with it, as well as several example screen-shots of my own custom 2.3.3 version for comparison and design ideas.

    Go check it out:

    Hello guys!

Is there any W3C friendly post editor for WordPress? I use the WordPress 2.6.3. with the default built-in post editor. However I realized it’s not W3C friendly 🙁 If you have any idea where can I find a W3C friendly WordPress editor, please let me know. A plugin would be the better!

As you can on the main page of my Hotel Audit – Online Hotel Bookings blog is W3C friendly, but I’ve many problem with my posts 🙁
