 * Hi, all. Very new to WordPress and I know practically nothing about PHP, so I
   hope you guys can help.
I’m trying to get my blog up and running and read that
the easiest way to change a style was to install the style switcher plugin. So
I downloaded it and began to follow the steps. I couldn’t find a “Plugin” option
anywhere on the admin screen. When I began to poke around, lo and behold, there’s
no plugin.php file on my server. There was also no wp-content directory, or wp-
styles directory. I’m running WordPress 1.0.2, installed by Scripta through my
cPanel. What’s going on here? Do these directories and the plugin.php file have
to be made by hand? Thanks for your help!

 * 1.0.2 is pretty old now, the current version being 1.2mingus (and it has been
   for at least 3 months)
Back in the ‘old days’ we used a my-hacks file to customise,
now – with 1.2 – we use the plugins. That explains why your file structure is
wrong. Upgrading to 1.2 is necessary first I’m afraid.

But post again if you do want to and you need any more info.

 * Thanks for the info. From the link you provided, it looks like upgrading it manually
may be a bit buggy. I’m going to ask my hosting service to upgrade it on their
server before trying anything else. They’re usually pretty responsive, so hopefully
   it will happen soon. 🙂
I’ll probably (almost certainly) be back for more help
   soon. 🙂 Cheers

 * Devon, plugin capabilities wasn’t avail in that version of WP. 1.2 was the first
   time it was.
