 * Switching to [Mercator](https://github.com/humanmade/Mercator) by humanmade fixed
   my issue and I have not seen any issue with it since this post. I agree that 
   most people on a host with old software can use this plugin. Anyone running lastest
   version of PHP and WordPress should consider other options.

 * Clarification, there are some issues with both plugins (Mercator and WP MU Domain
   Mapping) working properly with different web hosting Control panels other than
   cPanel.
 * DirectAdmin is what I use to manage my sites and it would seem if you use either
   of these plugins and configure the additional domains as pointers rather than
   aliases they do not redirect properly. I am not sure the difference between the
   two but one works and the other does not. So keep this in mind when configuring
   either plugin with your site.
