VPS is usually unmanaged, so you need to have system administration skills,
without them you can encounter problems and performance can be not optimal.
But if you have skills, you can implement technologies (such as using memcached or redis) to speed up your site.
On a shared hosting – there are support system administrators who will take care of most things, you only have to manage your own site.

Maybe I was not clear about the comparison.
Assuming that the two hosts have the same specs for example: 2 Cores, 2 GB RAM. But they are different in NVMe shared server vs SSD VPS.
Also assuming that system administrators have the same skills level in server optimization.
