one post showing

    im having a problem with displaying posts on index page.I used to have only one post visible and that was indicated by the panel menu – options – reading.i changed this from 1 to various values nad it does not work.i also changed my theme and now the index page shows only one post even in default of previous theme.
    i tried to download this plugin for displaying posts but every archive there seems to be broken.
    any help ?
