# Parse error: need help fixing

 * Hi,
    I have a site built in Word press with a custom theme. Today I added Buddypress
   and was having some trouble seeing the Group section and then realized it was
   there just that my background is black…so I added white text to some of the coding
   which worked for some of it, and then I got in trouble with this message: Parse
   error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home1/discovs1/public_html/wp-content/
   themes/carrie-love-custom/functions.php on line 6
 * And now it won’t let me on the functions to fix anything so not sure what to 
   do and its taken most of my site down. I should mention I’m not a web designer
   at all but have been doing my own updates to the site and thought I could do 
   this (!) any help would be much appreciated, I’ve been at this for many hours
   now! :))

 * -make sure there is no white space / blank line in the functions.php
 * -alternately, try replacing the old functions.php with a fresh copy
    via FTP 
   or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides

 * Thank you, I managed to fix that issue and now have a new one, it’s saying:
 * Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started
   at /home1/discovs1/public_html/wp-content/themes/carrie-love-custom/functions.
   php:947) in /home1/discovs1/public_html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 934
 * I went on the ftp to check these pages but can’t figure out what to change. Now
   all the pages on my website show up blank except the home page and Word press
   won’t let me on past the error message so I’m not sure what to do next. Any advice
   appreciated. thank you!
