Try switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.
One quick question. Lets says I want to login in to my wp-admin and I don’ t have this problem, let’ s assume my user name is user1 and let’ s say my password is pass1 for my hypothetical wp-admin. Now I accidentally destroyed the code on my website and I get a syntax error and it won’ t let me get to anywhere on my website to correct what I have done. So naturally I try to connect via FTP and enter the correct url and it asks me for a username and password. Would I enter in user1 and pass1 for the username and password to access my site via FTP and correct my mistake?
I am afraid you don’ t understand, let me take it from the top again. So a few days ago I went into the live editor in WordPress. I then changed something on accident and it didn’ t like it, so now when I try to get to anything involved with my website I get these message.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘/’ in /home2/xxxxxx/xxxxxx/xxxxxx/xxxxxx/themes/fortitude-wp/functions.php on line 17 ( I “x” to keep things private, if you know what I mean 😉 )
It won’ t even let me access in to my WordPress to fix it, so after that I experienced a panic attack. I am still in a state of panic and need someone’ s help. I googled my problem and someone said to access via FTP, but I don’ t know how to access via FTP. Please help, until I get my site back up and running I’ ll be in a featle postion in a dark corner of my bedroom :|.
Re-upload a fresh copy of your theme’s functions.php file to wp-content/themes/fortitude-wp using FTP.

Or use whatever file management application your host provides.
If I contact my host will they provide me with the necessary information?
