# Parse Error: Syntax Error – Please help!

 * I am new to the WordPress world and I already need help!

 * I tried to play with the theme and now this error appears:
    Parse error: syntax
   error, unexpected ‘=’ in /homepages/36/d316805181/htdocs/wordpress/wp-content/
   themes/hope/functions.php on line 57
 * I cannot open my blog, etc. I tried re-loading the theme and admin sections through
   FTP but this has not helped.

 * Not entirely sure if this is the error, but think that that should be a comparative
   =
 * `while( list( $key, $photo ) == each( $items ) ) {`
