# Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘

 * Everything is up to date. WP 4.7.5; all plugins and themes up to date.
 * Just after installing, I get the following error:
 * > Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
   >  Parse error:
   > syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-google-analytics-
   > events/includes/functions.php on line 158
 * Sure enough, when I look at line 158, I see this:
 * `$extracted = [`
 * The plugin will not activate, so is currently not usable.
 * The rest of the site seems unaffected (since it won’t activate with the error).
 * Any ideas?

 * I’m guessing that you are running with an old version of PHP.
    Can you check 
   wich one?

 * So yeah, old.
 * No my server. Didn’t think to check.
 * I’ll have to do without for this project.
