 * Re-upload the wp-includes folder from a fresh download of WP. It may have gotten
   corrupted. You should **NEVER** edit those files.
 * If that doesn’t work, what plugins are you running?

 * Add this into one of your template files, load the page once, then remove the
   code.
 *     ```
       delete_option('sidebar_widgets');
       ```
   
 * Then go back to the admin and add back your widgets..
 * It’ll be a widget that’s caused the error if Ipstenu’s suggestion hasn’t helped.
   Take care when adding them back, as any problmatic widget will likely cause the
   same to happen again..
 * Rinse, and repeat if necessary..

 * I have the same problem in 7 sites which had installed with WordPress 2.8.x version.

 * Yesterday, I attempted to delete the old WP files of 2 sites through FTP. And
   then uploaded WP 2.8.6 files to them. The 2 sites became normal. Today 2 sites
   display the same problem.

 * In my experience the default widgets error is shown when a user installed widget
   has errors, in such cases, flushing the sidebar_widgets option resolves the problem(
   procedure shown in previous response).
 * Deleting the option means you have to add widgets back to your theme ( **Admin**
   > **Appearance **> **Widgets **), but it will give you back access to your pages,
   just be sure not to activate the problematic widget again. The easiest way to
   isolate a problem widget is to add one back at a time, testing a few blog pages
   between each addition of a widget (open a few tabs in your browser if it makes
   the process easier).
 * That’s not to say it’s the cause for everyone, but i’ve only seen that error 
   a few times during my time using WordPress, and “for me”, each time was in relation
   to the installation of widgets.
