# Parse error: syntax error, unexpected error please help

 * I am hoping there is some help out there… I updated plugins and now the web page
   has crashed with this error:
 * Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘(‘ in /home1/genevawindows/public_html/
   wp-content/plugins/cookie-law-info/admin/modules/cookie-scaner/cookie-scaner.
   php on line 516
 * I do not know what to do now. I think I am supposed to update the PHP but also
   do not know how to do this!
 * Can you please help?

 * Access your server via [SFTP or FTP](https://wordpress.org/support/article/ftp-clients/),
   or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting
   provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/plugins/
   and delete the whole /cookie-law-info/ directory there.
 * This will remove the plugin causing the problem and restore your site.
 * Next, I recommend reporting the issue at [https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/cookie-law-info/](https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/cookie-law-info/)
   so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.
