Pase Error – Syntax Error

    Hello everyone.

    I’m not exactly sure how but I’ve managed to make my site dysfunctional. Whenever I try to view the page or log in to the dashboard I get nothing but this message:

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home2/council6/public_html/wp-content/themes/painter/functions.php on line 2

    If anyone has any ideas what I’ve done and how I can fix it I would be grateful. I have tried editing the file (e.g. removing the offending ‘<‘) but then the error message moves on to saying the next character in the code is unexpected. What can I do?

    you could try to upload a fresh functions.php from the painter theme zip
    or delete the painter folder
    this will bring up default theme and let you log in
    maybe then re install theme
