# Permalink change not finding posts

 * I have a test site on my PC running in a wamp environment. It was set up with
   the default permalink setting of /?p=123. I’ve changed it to /postname/, /%postname%/,
   and /%category%/%postname%/, and when I click a post it shows the correct URL
   in the title bar but cannot find the post.
 * I’ve tried this with both old and new posts (created after the changes) and nothing
   works.
 * The .htaccess file is processed, and that’s evident in the renaming of the URL.
 * Checking the database, I see the post has the numeric link (e.g. ?p=123) but 
   changing that to the postname makes no difference. Presumably the numeric link
   is to provide a unique id.
 * Anyone have a clue about what might be causing this?

 * I changed the permalink settings back to numeric and all the posts, whether created
   before or after the previous changes, worked fine.
 * That doesn’t solve my problem though.

 * I’ve removed all plugins and changed the theme to 2014, and still no success.
   I’m wondering now if it’s because the installation is on my PC, even though I
   can’t think of why that would have any effect.

 * I’m marking this as resolved, though it isn’t.
 * After exploring every path I could think of, I concluded the problem was intractable.
   The good news is that I bit the bullet, made the change to my live site, and 
   it worked immediately and seamlessly, so I no longer have to get it working on
   the test site.
