# permalink errors – Warning: preg_match():

 * I did search but all answers were from 5 to 7 years old. I am having trouble 
   with the permalinks and getting this error message. Help is appreciated as its
   happening on more than one site. I am using a multi-site version of 4.1.1
 * Warning: preg_match(): Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 1 in /
   home/itsme/public_html/wp-includes/class-wp.php on line 204

 * -Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting and renaming
   your WordPress .htaccess file. If that works, then try reading [Using_Permalinks ](http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks)
   before setting a custom permalink structure again. If clearing your Permalinks
   does not alleviate the issue, this could be attributed to anything from a web
   server configuration to a bad WordPress install.
