My client’s calendar has many, many dozens of events every month. We have been getting feedback that people are having trouble finding events because of this – if they don’t know the date, they have to do a lot of scrolling or searching on the calendar grid. I was asked to implement a way to SEARCH for events – I looked into the documentation and your paid extensions, and it doesn’t appear that an events-specific search is a feature (but would love if there was one.)

SO – we have just a regular site-wide search, and I simply instructed people to use that to search for the events they are looking for. Bad mistake – because it doesn’t work.

The event details pages that open from any of the calendar views have URLs like:
    https://watersideresidents.com/events/?event=15275

But when I search using the sitewide search, the same event comes back as:
    https://watersideresidents.com/event/mens-strength-training/

And in the case of recurring events, from search it just appends a number after each successive URL, such as:
    https://watersideresidents.com/event/mens-strength-training-2
    https://watersideresidents.com/event/mens-strength-training-3
    and so on…

When anyone clicks on the links from the search page – it just redirects them to the home page, it doesn’t open the event as it should

Can this be fixed – so either the events themselves have the URL with the event slug, or the search returns the URL with the ID?

  • Thanks for reaching out to us.

We are looking into it and will update you as soon as possible.

    Our apology for delayed response.

We understand the difficulty of navigating many events, and we have a “Find Events” feature on the calendar that allows users to search by name and use filters like date, event type, venue, and more. Quick searches for “Next Weekend,” “Next Week,” and “Next Month” are also available.

Regarding the site-wide search issue, we recommend enabling Pretty URLs in the SEO settings of EventPrime to resolve it. Here’s how:

    • Navigate to EventPrime -> Settings.
    • Under the General Tab, go to the SEO subtab.
    • Enable Pretty URLs.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
    Always happy to help!

Thanks so much – I didn’t realize about the event_filters, that’s great, thank you!

As for the pretty URL issue, that is excellent, never even looked at the SEO tab as this is a completely closed (residents only) website, so we do not need any SEO. One note I will make – you still may want to make note that in the default search of WordPress, the pretty URLs for events are returned even though I did not have them turned on. My guess is that is not how you want it to work, considering all of those links were broken. I presume this isn’t an issue for anyone who turns on pretty URLs, though, but still wanted to mention it.

We have over 1,500 events on our calendar now – I’m going to turn on Pretty URLs, but I am a little concerned it’s going to max the site and kick a server error. We have repeatedly ended up accidentally adding an event that gets published to the calendar 2,000 or 3,000 times, and when we try to edit that event to fix it, it maxes the server and we have to start again.

I should open another ticket for that — it happens if there’s any error in setting up Repeat — yesterday, we set up an event that was to occur every First Wednesday through January. The person creating the event chose First Wednesday in the Repeat but did NOT click a radio button – so neither radio button was selected – and it generated thousands of copies of the event on one single date. This has happened to us numerous times if there is the slightest thing set up wrong.

Thank you for bringing this issue of recurring events to our attention.

We have resolved the issue, and are live with the fixes. Could you please update to the latest version, check, and confirm for us?
