Permalink “resets” after every page update
-
Hello.
I’ve noticed something strange. Everytime I update the content of a page on my website, the custom permalink resets to its original version.
For example: months ago I’ve created a page named “Educazione alla Cittadinanza Globale”; the permalink was therefore http://www.cies.it/educazione-alla-cittadinanza-globale
Then I’ve changed the title to that page in “Educazione e Formazione”; therefore the permalink was changed to http://www.cies.it/educazione-e-formazione.
Now, if I edit the content of the page and update the page…the permalink goes back to http://www.cies.it/educazione-alla-cittadinanza-globale.
Any idea on how to fix this?

Hi @mrprainx
Sorry about that you are facing this issue. I have checked and didn’t find it. Can please confirm that either it happens to all the pages either you created recently or the old one?
Also, is there any other permalink plugin you are using with this plugin?
Looks like that something is conflicting with custom permalinks functionality but need your help to verify that.
Thanks,
SamiHello Sami.
Thank you for your answer.
No, I’m not using any other permalink plugin.
At the moment, I’ve disabled Custom Permalink plugin because it was hampering our work on the website.
It seemed to happen with any page whose permalink has been changed.
How can I help you to further investigate the issue?
Can you provide me your site access to review the issue on your behalf?
Yes of course. I’m only worried that if we enable the plugin again the permalinks will all change again…and that would be a semi-disaster for us! π
Is this likely going to happen?
Anyway, where can I send you the credentials?
@sasiddiqui I’ve deleted your offer to login to your user’s site. I’m am 100% sure you mean well but please never ask for credentials on these forums.

Now for the why: The internet is a wonderful place full of very nice people and a few very bad ones. I’m sure everyone here is very nice however, by giving some ones keys to your house you are trusting they wont steal anything. Likewise the person who takes the keys is now responsible for the house FOREVER.
If something was to go wrong, then you the author may well legally become liable for damages, which they would not normally have been as their software is provided without warranty.
Please be aware that repeatedly asking for credentials will result in us asking you to repeatedly stop before escalating up to the plugins team.
@jdembowski I am only asking about the credentials as the plugin may conflicting with some other plugin or theme. I never have bad intention. I have helped many users by this way.
Anyways, I’ll keep that in mind and won’t do it again.
This issue persists on our site as well. Any solutions to this? I don’t use any other permalink plugin but Yoast would be the closest to one since it needs the permalinks to create a sitemap. Not sure if that’s of any help though.
Thanks in advance!
@timidyo Please provide the detail of the issue you are facing.
Also, please try to check this by clearing all the cache and re-saving the Permalinks from the settings page.
If issue still exist for you then please elaborate your issue with screenshot or video of it.
Thanks,
SamiHi Sami,
Thanks for your response. π
Hmmm… Aside from what I said in my previous post, I’m afraid I don’t have much to add. I only noticed the issue a few days ago as we have only used the plugin on a couple of pages.
We have some pages that have parents. Let’s say page-a is page-b’s parent. By default, the page will have this URL: example.com/page-a/page-b. We decided to get rid of /page-a in the URL but still keep it as a parent (for the purpose of breadcrumbs) so we used your plugin to turn it into just example.com/page-b. It’s all great but I noticed that every time I save the page, it goes back to the default slug (/page-a/page-b). To use the new one again, I will have to edit it once more and save it.
I recorded a video of it if it’s of any help: https://streamable.com/4uj20
I also already cleared the cache and reset the permalinks setting but it’s still the same. :\
Thanks!
@timidyo Thanks for providing the details. I have tried to reproduce this issue on my end but doesn’t found that.
I am doing the same thing as you defined. Create “Page A” and then create “Page B” and select “Page A” as the parent page of “Page B”, removed the slug of parent page and published. After publish i have updated the page 2 -3 times but everything looks fine to me.
I am checking this with “StoreFront Theme”. I suggest you to create 2 new pages and test this out. Maybe, it’s having an issue with old permalinks/pages or with Theme.
If repeating the scenario with new pages seems to resolve this issue then definitely i’ll look this with old permalinks.
Otherwise, i’ll try to check with Divi Theme.
Regards,
SamiHi Sami,
I took your suggestion and created two new pages and made one the parent of the other. However, it still has the issue. :\
Thanks. π
@timidyo Not sure what i am missing here. Maybe Divi theme having some conflicts with it but not sure as i haven’t checked that.
Need to verify this before making any decision on it.
Thanks,
SamiHello,
If I may add – it wasn’t an issue before, Divi and the plugin worked without problems. Although admittedly I’m not sure when it started. Probably with a previous update of either of the two?
Please keep me posted so I know if I should start looking at our options.
Thanks! π
@timidyo Please update
class-custom-permalinks-frontend.phpunder plugincustom-permalinks/frontend/folder with updated file which can be found here:
https://github.com/yasglobal/custom-permalinks/blob/develop/frontend/class-custom-permalinks-frontend.phpThis is the only change which may create issue with existing Permalinks if it starts with last update of the plugin.
Let me know the results, once you have tested it.
Thanks,
Sami
