# Permalinks help please

 * I have wp set up on my own domain and for each blog i write i want the postname
   in the permalink and not the number, now I know how to do this in the settings
   the trouble is when i do it and then it gives me the new permalinks it takes 
   me to a page with no file on. Someone said there is a file or something I have
   to edit to allow wp to write new permalinks? Can anyone help me by shedding any
   light on what I have to do to change my permalink settings from the default to
   what I want

   that familiar with this.

 * Use a [plain text editor](http://codex.wordpress.org/Glossary#Text_editor) to
   create a file named `htaccess` with the content that WordPress tells you to place
   in the file after saving the permalink structure.
 * Then, use an [FTP or SFTP client](http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients) to 
   upload the file to the same directory as your `wp-login.php` file.
 * Once it’s uploaded, change the file’s name to `.htaccess` (add the dot in front).
