Permission problem causing config issues.

    The reason I believe it is an issue with permission is the problems stemming from it.

    Prior to me installing WordPress I used the server for basic web hosting. I used DigitalOcean’s install guide for Ubuntu 14.04 and followed the steps to a T.

    Ubuntu 14.04 – Apache2 (latest), PHP (latest) mySQL

    I am not able to do the following:

    View new pages I publish.
    -I have tried changing permalinks and changing/fixing permissions with .htaccess.

    Customize theme
    -I will go to the page and the sidebar with options show up but the theme on the right does not.

    Update
    -The updater fails when copying index.php???

    Please help me with this issue, I have searched and spent most of the day looking for a solution(s) and having found nothing that worked.
