# PHP memory_limit

 * So I’ve been experiencing 500 Internal Server Errors with WP v2.0.5 and to help
   I installed the 2.0.5 tune up file.
 * Things were working ok but then the errors started happening again. I emailed
   my host support about it and here is the reply that I received:
 * > The problem appears to be PHP memory_limit in the php.ini file. The default
   > level is 8MB and WordPress requires more than that. That is why you are receiving
   > that particular error.
   > What we can do is increase this memory_limit to the maximum 32MB.
   > Please advise us if you would like to proceed with this increase.
 * Before I tell them to up the limit, does this sound like a legit reply about 
   why this could be happening?

 * Yep. A great place to start.
 * WP will typically run well in the PHP default of 8MB. However, as you add plugins(
   and complexity), it’s not too unusual to need more.

 * Yes. However, the default of 8M is usually plenty for WordPress, unless you’re
   doing something really unusual or have some heavy plugin installed.

 * Ok, thanks for the reply HandySolo. I’ll tell them to go for it and once it’s
   done (probably within 24 hours) I’ll report back and either close the post or
   add more to it.

 * Otto42: I don’t think that I’m doing anything unusual with my site and WP install.
   My theme is well optimized and I don’t have any scripts running for features.
 * I do have the following 7 plugins installed and activated:
 * Akismet, Feedburner Feed Replacement, Fold Page List, Google Sitemaps, SRG Clean
   Archives, WordPress 2.0.5 Tuneup, WP-ContactForm.
 * The only thing new to my list in a long while is the tuneup plugin.
 * To the best of my knowledge, the plugins I have running are not resource hogs.
   If one is, I’d like to know.

 * Well my host increased the ram size to 32 mb and it solved my issue.
 * It also fixed a problem I was having with my Site Map issue and Akismet.
 * So does this mean some plugins require a lot of resources? This only occurred
   after upgrading to WP 2.0.5. My plugins stayed the same.
