 * Hey Guys,
 * Just wanted to start a thread for feedback and suggestions on the Platform Theme
   by PageLines.
 * Please leave any comments about your experience and input for future versions
   here (it’s hard to know what you want, if you don’t tell us!)
 * Thanks!

 * Bruce, clicking my header image always takes me to the home page. I have no actual
   customization, do you? I do have a logo in the general options of the Platform
   theme, do you?

 * Hey Andrew? Is there any way currently (or any plans) to have “options” for how
   archives are laid out? I’m fairly happy with my current page using the snazzy-
   archives plug-in but I just learned that it doesn’t display the thumbnail if
   the pics are from a gallery insert. I’ll pose the question to them about why
   that is, but I am SO happy with the free Platform theme that I wondered if there
   were any plans to offer archive ‘customization’ in the future because then I
   wouldn’t need any plug-in for the thumbnail archives.
 * Thanks again for a rockin’ theme!

 * Andrew, I am loving this theme–and the recent changes to the text options on
   the free version.
 * Any plans to create an option to delete the search bar in the header?
 * 😀

 * I have recently adopted the free Platform offering. I am having trouble changing
   the main_nav color through the stylesheet.css. Is this option available to me
   with the free version?

 * To ask the broader question. How do you make changes to the css on your free
   template?
 * Thank you

 * I feel like I must be missing something, but is it not possible with this theme
   to create a new page template? What I’m I missing? I have uploaded the template,
   but don’t see where I include it to the page I’m wanting to create.
 * Does that make sense?
 * Thanks

 * I really enjoyed the free version but am extremely frustrated with Platform Pro.
   It’s marketed as easy to use and good for beginners, but to do some of the really,
   really basic things you have to 1) know a lot about CSS and PHP, and 2) sift
   through forum answers and a pretty vague and unhelpful document section.
 * For example, I do not want to have to use “hooks” to simply adjust the size and
   contents of the header area. The page layout column dimensions are drag and drop,
   so why not the header? The default is set to span the entire canvas area, which
   is a huge waste of space. (The footer is even worse — it spans the entire page,
   not just the canvas. No apparent option to change it, either, other than more
   code.) I’d like to put a widget or two up there. I’ve read that other users would
   like to put advertisements up there. Why is it so hard to do? It’s obvious from
   the forums that many of your customers are not coding experts, which is why they
   bought your product(s), yet the answers to some of the most basic questions involve
   a fairly high level of understanding of code.
 * Additionally, it is very difficult to try and figure out how to have consistent
   sidebar contents when switching between 2 column and 3 column layouts. How about
   drag and drop _elements_ on a grid layout, not just column widths? For ex., if
   my home/index/”posts page” (a very unclear name for a newbie, btw — why not main,
   home, or index?) has the main work area + right sidebar (Sidebar 1) setup, but
   I want single posts to have a column on each side, it is nearly impossible to
   get the same contents to show in the right side column — because now Sidebar
   1 is on the left and Sidebar 2 is on the right.
 * I thought with how intuitive the free version was, the pro version would be the
   same. But it’s not, and some of the basics are not there. Being told to go read
   the documents is really not very helpful, either. I’m sure most folks in the
   support forums checked the documents and videos before posting our questions,
   yet didn’t have any success. …how about the support staff just answers the question
   instead of performing the ol’ redirect trick?
 * It’s late and I am cranky, no doubt. I may come to regret the whiny tone of this
   post, but I’d been looking forward to upgrading my site with a professional theme
   for a long time. I finally got one I thought would be easy to use and customize,
   but I’m finding that some of the simplest, most basic functions are buried and
   tangled. I’m not happy right now, just very, very frustrated.

 * Can you edit the CSS on the free platform theme by pagelines without editing
   the CSS file directly?

 * “AR” seems to not be around for the last 5 months, so this is a shot in the dark
   or to anyone who might know:
 * I’m quite new at this but a fast learner and have been enjoying the free version
   of Platform until I got to the point where I wanted to enter into some customization
   that Platform doesn’t offer in the core structure, so I began educating myself
   about Child Themes(and templates) in WP. However, Platform Free doesn’t seem
   to have the structure referred to in the [WP Child Theme “How to” documentation](http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes)(
   and elsewhere). It appears that, for example, functions.php, and page.php and
   other files from within the Platform theme folder refer to code embedded somewhere
   else less discoverable (undiscoverable?)and therefor not available to the “cut,
   paste and modify” style of Child Theme creation.
    The only reference I can find
   here to Child Themes with Platform seem to refer to a “Base.css” file available(
   apparently) only with the $100 version of Platform and a response to the question
   of creating Child Themes in the free version of,
 * > You sure can, the only thing is you have to create your own.
 * . Meaning…?
    Meaning create your own from scratch? Meaning no code available
   from those aforementioned files from which to build upon? Surely not. That wouldn’t
   be a child theme. It would just be building your own theme. Yes? Please correct
   me if I’m wrong and point me to documentation that leads one through the process
   of child theme creation in Platform free such as WP has for the same in other,
   more open-face themes.

 * Really wish they had a thumbs up option here. While other feedback was definitely
   worth the read. I think TourAbsurd put things as politely as they could possible
   be put. While I’ve gotten the theme to look basically the way I want I’m still
   struggling with a few basics and no one has offered any suggestions in my recent
   theme help posting.
 * I for one hope to see the day when coders and developers start understanding
   basic common sense, usability and drop the attitude that end users are a bunch
   of clueless morons. Guess that is why we have the insulting gamer term TourAbsurd
   decided to use in their post.
 * WordPress is supposed to about creating content NOT learning how to code. To
   bad the majority of the development community doesn’t seem to get that.

 * I loaded this theme today and is it correct to state that **you cannot modify
   the free version of this theme without upgrading.**
 * I can only change things using the General settings which is fine if I couldn’t
   see the other options in the panel provided. They should NOT have this theme
   available in this format as it is mis advertised.
 * All the previous comment on this post relate to CSS modification which I am cool
   with but when you get presented a snazzy epanel/panel type of interface that
   isn’t clickable then that isn’t fair.
 * Or am I missing something?

 * Yes, there is certainly some slightly less-than-open-and-free practices with
   the development of this theme, the fact that its founder started this thread
   and now has abandoned it is certainly indicative of something.
    Largely the Platform
   free version seems to be a hook to get people to spend $100 on Platform Pro,
   which by many accounts throughout this forum, isn’t amounting to be worth the
   price. In a community where a **large** proportion of folks (if not the majority)
   are working successfully with a _free _web design platfom, _free _templates,_
   free _plug-ins, and free a _free _online support network, the developers of most
   of which are happy to offer assistance in the using of their creations, a vendor
   coming amidst that same community with a blatant attempt to get money without
   prior support or courtship is a little brutish, I have to say. Not that anyone
   is being forced, but there is certainly quite a bit of coaxing at every step
   with Platform to get you to spend that $100, as well as a lot of ignoring of
   those who are not willing or able to make that sacrifice. _Caveat emptor_! The
   fact that prospective clients spending time with the free version on a trial
   basis in order to determine worthiness of the paid product are not offered help
   by the devs (PageLines’ forums are for purchased products only, and these free
   and open forums here have been abandoned as pointed out) is reason _alone_ to
   question the intentions of said developers. Money is always the bottom line with
   such types, not the users. Whereas the general spirit in _this _community is
   _free and open_ dissemination of information and supportive aid to meet that
   end.
