 * I think there is a bug in this plug-in, although I have not figured out where
   in the code it is occurring.
 * I have my configuration setup to allow regular logins as well as a specific google
   apps domain. I created a test account and validated it from the admin interface.
   However, when I tried to login under that test account, I kept getting “username
   is not an email address” errors. I finally figured that the user password I set
   was not saved for some reason, since after entering a new password for this test
   account (as an admin), I was able to login fine.
 * There may be something that is restricting user-set passwords. At the same time,
   the “username is not an email address” message is not very standard since it
   shows up on a blank page. This error, and any others, should appear in the error
   div of the login screen.

 * Gabriel Mongefranco

 * Hi Gabriel,
 * I had this issue when I first installed the plugin as well. The plugin is very
   good, but the official documentation is virtually non-existent.
 * The problem you’re encountering means that all usernames in WordPress must be
   email addresses. For instance, If you have a WordPress user johnsmith that you
   want to authenticate against Google Apps (for mydomain.com), change their WordPress
   username to [johnsmith@mydomain.com](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-3rd-party-authentication-plugin-broken/johnsmith@mydomain.com?output_format=md)(
   my Google Apps email address).
 * I’ve documented my experiences with this plugin and how I got it working at

   [http://codyaray.com/2010/08/wordpress-authentication-via-google-apps](http://codyaray.com/2010/08/wordpress-authentication-via-google-apps)
 * This includes this problem and solution in more detail, among others you might
   encounter as well.
 * Stick with it, it’s worth it, and good luck!

 * Thanks for the link, Cody. One question though — would the fix mentioned in your
   blog allow me to have regular WP users AND Google Apps users? Because that is
   what I’m looking to have… regular users for my readers, and GApps users for members
   of my family domain name.
 * Thanks!

 * No problem, Gabriel. This setup does allow you to have both WP users AND Google
   Apps users. This can be configured on the plugin’s settings page, which can be
   accessed in the Settings Group in the left-hand column of the WP-Admin Console.
 * You can also go directly there with this link (change mydomain.com to your domain):
   [http://mydomain.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=3rd-party-authentication/3rd-party-authentication.php](http://mydomain.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=3rd-party-authentication/3rd-party-authentication.php)
 * Now, just make sure “Allow regular logins?” is checked and save the settings.
 * Google Apps users have their WP username be their Google Apps email address and
   can be admin created (since your family is probably a small group) or auto-created
   through the “Auto create users?” plugin setting.
 * WP users have a regular WP username and can be created by admin or self-subscribed
   as normal for a WP blog.
