# Plugin commits – SVN basic auth error

 * Not sure where to post this but I am trying to release an update to one of my
   plugins and I’m getting svn: E170001: POST of ‘/!svn/me’: authorization failed:
   Could not authenticate to server: rejected Basic challenge ([http://plugins.svn.wordpress.org](http://plugins.svn.wordpress.org))
 * Not sure why or what to do about it.

 * OK, by the way, I was using svnX on the mac. When I used tortoise on my PC it
   gave me a lot clearer message.
 * Basically it didn’t like the ‘shortness’ of my commit message.
 * I used to be able to just put in the release version as a commit message but 
   now it seems I need to write a short sentence. Not a problem – when you know 
   why the commit is failing.
 * Hope this post helps others searching for a solution, it was driving me crazy.
