# Plugin conversion tracking?

 * Subject: Clarification about “Plugin conversion tracking” in Site Kit – Is it
   using the Google Ads AW conversion tag?
 * Hello,
 * I am using the **Site Kit by Google** plugin on a WordPress website and I noticed
   the option called **“Plugin conversion tracking.”**
 * I would like to understand exactly what this feature does at a technical level.
    - My site is connected to **Google Analytics 4**.
    - My **Google Ads account exists but no campaigns are currently active**.
    - In Site Kit, I see the option enable by default – **Plugin conversion tracking**.
 * My questions are:
    1. Does the **Plugin conversion tracking** feature actually add or trigger the **
       Google Ads conversion tag (AW-XXXXXXXX)** on the website? (Google Ads conversion
       tag?)
    2. If it is not directly using the **AW Google Ads conversion tag**, what script
       or tracking mechanism does it implement exactly?
    3. When Plugin conversion tracking is enabled:
    4. - Does Site Kit inject an **AW global site tag** (`gtag('config','AW-XXXX')`)?
        - Or does it only send **events to Google Analytics 4** that can later be imported
          into Google Ads?
    5. Which specific scripts or requests should appear in the page source or network
       tab when this feature is active?
 * I am asking because I want to avoid:
    - duplicate tracking
    - unnecessary scripts
    - incorrect conversion attribution
    - adding automatically to a website without Google Ads
 * If possible, please clarify:
    - exactly **which tags are injected**
    - whether this feature is the actuall **Google Ads conversion IDs (AW)** or
      not.
 * Thank you for the clarification.

 * Hi [@123nadav](https://wordpress.org/support/users/123nadav/), thanks for reaching
   out regarding plugin conversion tracking. Plugin conversion tracking in Site
   Kit, previously known as enhanced conversion tracking, integrates with a limited
   number of supported [WordPress.org](http://wordpress.org/) plugins.
 * Once plugin conversion tracking has been enabled, certain actions from a selection
   of supported WordPress plugins will be recorded in Google Analytics and/or Google
   Ads. These events may enhance your Google Ads campaign(s) and allow you to better
   understand your users behavior via Google Analytics. Detection of the presence
   and usage of supported plugins is automatically handled by Site Kit based on
   whether plugin conversion tracking has been enabled or not.
 * With regards to your questions:
    1. No, the Ads tag is not placed by Site Kit when enabling plugin conversion tracking.
       That is done when connecting the Ads module. As mentioned above, some actions
       from a selection of supported WordPress plugins will be recorded in your Googles
       Ads. You can see these being recorded using the [Google Tag Assistant tool](https://tagassistant.google.com/)
       and viewing the [data layer section](https://ibb.co/4Rv1w87C) for your Analytics
       or Ads tags.
    2. Once plugin conversion tracking is enabled, Site Kit will automatically detect
       whether there are any supported plugins that are currently active on your site.
       If there are any supported plugins active, Site Kit will place JavaScript code
       on the front end of the website to facilitate the collection of additional events.
       Here is the [list of supported plugins](https://sitekit.withgoogle.com/documentation/using-site-kit/plugin-conversion-tracking/#supported-third-party-plugins).
    3. These actions are recorded in your Analytics and Ads. There is no need to import
       anything from Analytics over to your Ads.
    4. If you have plugin conversion tracking enabled with Analytics and/or Ads connected
       in Site Kit and any of the supported plugins, Site Kit will place JavaScript
       code on the front end of the website to facilitate the collection of additional
       events as mentioned in point 2 above. These JavaScript code snippets will differ
       depending on the plugins you have active but here is an example of what is placed
       when I have the contact form 7 plugin active: `<script src="[https://newreleasetesting.instawp.co/wp-content/plugins/google-site-kit/dist/assets/js/googlesitekit-events-provider-contact-form-7-83c32a029ed2cf5b6a82.js](https://newreleasetesting.instawp.co/wp-content/plugins/google-site-kit/dist/assets/js/googlesitekit-events-provider-contact-form-7-83c32a029ed2cf5b6a82.js)"
       id="googlesitekit-events-provider-contact-form-7-js" defer></script>`
 * You can also find more information on Ads conversions [here](https://newreleasetesting.instawp.co/).
   I hope this helps to answer your questions but please do let me know if there
   is anything else I can help you to understand with regard to plugin conversion
   tracking or anything else Site Kit.

 * Hi, sounds good. After we confirm that it’s not the **AW tag** (Google Ads official
   tag), I need to clarify something with you.
 * Let’s say I have one Gmail account, and this Gmail has three websites registered
   in Google Search Console and Google Analytics:
 * _**[ Many redundant links removed ]**_
 * Only one of them has a Google Ads account connected. (_[ redundant link deleted]_)
 * So if I activate the **Plugin Conversion Tracking** option on all the websites,
   will it record conversions to the **_[ redundant link deleted ]_** Google Ads
   account? Because that is **not what I want**.
 * I’m trying to understand if this plugin could mix conversions between the websites,
   the Analytics properties, or even send conversion data to another Google Ads
   account just because all three websites are registered under the **same Gmail
   account** (screenshot if you not understand me):
 * [https://ibb.co/wFQkYn6s](https://ibb.co/wFQkYn6s)
 * An important note:
 * Each website has **separate Analytics, Search Console, GMB, etc.**, but all of
   them are under the same Gmail account as you see in my screenshot. That’s why
   I’m a bit concerned about using this plugin.
 * If you could explain how the plugin decides **where to send the conversion data**,
   that would be very helpful.
 * One more thing: for the plugin to work properly, do I need to configure or change
   any settings in the Analytics platform?
 * For example, **Enhanced Measurement** requires configuration inside Analytics(
   the measurement toggles inside the Analytics settings need to be turned ON) screenshot
   if you not understand what i meant:
 * [https://ibb.co/zH0rkdDq](https://ibb.co/zH0rkdDq)
 * So, if I activate **Plugin Conversion Tracking**, do I need to make any adjustments
   inside **Google Analytics** as i show you in the screenshot above?
 * Sorry for all the questions, [@adamdunnage](https://wordpress.org/support/users/adamdunnage/).
   I just want to make sure I don’t do something wrong.
 * Regards,
   Levi

 * [@123nadav](https://wordpress.org/support/users/123nadav/) Thanks for the follow
   up. In the scenario you have presented, only the site with Ads connected will
   record plugin conversions. The others will only record these if you have Analytics
   and/or Ads connected on that site and have the plugin conversion tracking option
   selected for Analytics and/or Ads.
 * The plugin conversion tracking option will only display for the Analytics and
   Ads modules once you have those connected in Site Kit. You can’t set this without
   having one or both of these modules active. So in the scenario above you won’t
   have the other two sites recording conversions unless you have the Analytics
   and/or Ads modules connected with the plugin conversion tracking option selected
   within them. Using the same Google account doesn’t matter in this case.
 * With regards to the settings in Analytics, you shouldn’t need to set anything
   and plugin conversion tracking integrates with a limited number of supported
   [WordPress.org](http://wordpress.org/) plugins. That list of plugins is shown
   in our documentation that I [linked to previously](https://sitekit.withgoogle.com/documentation/using-site-kit/plugin-conversion-tracking/#supported-third-party-plugins).
 * No problem with all the questions, that’s what we’re here to help with! I hope
   this helps to clarify everything for you but let me know if I can help with anything
   else.

 * [@adamdunnage](https://wordpress.org/support/users/adamdunnage/) Hey how are
   you? thank you for your response.
 * So, as i showed you in my screenshot:
 * [https://ibb.co/wFQkYn6s](https://ibb.co/wFQkYn6s)
 * Each website has GA from his own (separately), and each website has the Google
   Site Kit with the Analytics module install.
 * From what i understand from you, this **Plugin Conversion Tracking**
 * Its actually not a tag from analytics or Ads, its just a script get connected
   to the module in the same website when you activate the GA module.
 * So i gonna activate that.
 * Another thing i wanna ask, you said its adding a costume script.
 * should i exclude this script from the cache? i have LiteSpeed cache plugin.
 * if you can help me with this one, if need to exclude this from Minify/Defer JS
   or any cache option, please provide me the name/url of the script (or portion
   of it). i believe you familiar with LiteSpeed and if have something you wanna
   recommended me i be happy to hear.
 * If i am wrong, tell me. any way, thank you for your time really i appreciate
   your help, any time i ask something you the first to help. really thank you [@adamdunnage](https://wordpress.org/support/users/adamdunnage/)
   you do an amazing job.

 * [@123nadav](https://wordpress.org/support/users/123nadav/) No problem at all
   and yes you understand that all correctly. Glad I could help you with that.
 * With regards to excluding the script from LiteSpeed, you shouldn’t need to do
   this but if you do notice any issues then please let us know and we can check
   this. We are unable to recommend which plugins you use on your site as that decision
   is ultimately yours.
 * Thanks and let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

 * [@123nadav](https://wordpress.org/support/users/123nadav/) To confirm, have you
   enabled plugin conversion tracking on all 3 sites? Do you have any of the supported
   third party plugins activated on the other 2 sites?
 * If you could share some screenshots or a recording to help show this then that
   would be appreciated.

 * Ok, so I took a screenshot for you.
 * I am a bit afraid to include the website URLs because if I do, the moderator
   may tell me again that I am spamming.
 * However, I will try and hope they will not remove the post.
 * First, this is a screenshot of all three websites while searching for the hook.
   Only one website finds the hook.
 * All the websites have Google Site Kit with Google Analytics active, plus the
   Conversion plugin.
 * [https://ibb.co/5gPwbK54](https://ibb.co/5gPwbK54)
 * The websites (please moderators, don’t remove this — the plugin owner needs to
   check these websites):
 * [https://locksmithunit.com/](https://locksmithunit.com/) → Conversion plugin
   cron is present
 * [https://locksmithunit.es/](https://locksmithunit.es/) → Not present
 * [https://locksmithunit.cat/](https://locksmithunit.cat/) → Not present
 * If there is anything else you need, please let me know.
 * Anyway, I am going to try deactivating and reactivating the Conversion plugin
   to see if this recreates the cron job on these websites. But if you notice something
   wrong or need anything else from me, feel free to tell me, [@adamdunnage](https://wordpress.org/support/users/adamdunnage/).
 * ————————
 * **An update,**
 * After turning the Conversion plugin **OFF and then ON**, the cron job was added
   to the cron jobs list. When I deactivate the Conversion plugin, it actually adds
   the cron job.
 * This is a little strange because the cron job is added when the plugin is **deactivated**,
   while normally it should be the **opposite**.
 * However, for now it seems to be fixed.
 * I recommend keeping the ticket open for **24–48 hours**, in case something changes
   and we still need to investigate this issue further.
 * **Regards,**
   Levi
