 * Greetings plugin developers.
 * I have recently setup my wordpress site at [http://www.robertphilp.com](http://www.robertphilp.com),
   and as a working PHP developer I thought I might have a go at developing a plugin
   or 2 for my own site, and perhaps for public consumption.
 * I just wondered how people approach the development? Are developers running a
   local install of wordpress on XAMPP or a similar local environment? Is there
   a generally agreed or recommended approach to architecting and testing a plugin
   through a beta process etc?
 * I would be interested to hear how people approach their plugin development work.
 * Thanks in advance.

 * Thanks Michael, I have been using XAMPP at work and for personal project for
   a couple of years and it’s always been fine, so I guess I’ll stick with it!
 * Is there a recommended approach for beta testing plugins? I am going to take
   a gentle approach and do something VERY simple to start with but obviously it’d
   be nce to have other people test a plugin (on older WP versions etc) rather than
   just myself on 2.7 on my local machine.
 * Cheers.

 * That kind of request (help testing plugin) has been seen on the wp-hackers email
   list.
