• This plugin seems to be just what I need but I cannot get any events up because it tells me there is an error in the database when I try to add a location. It is not recognizing any locations including the sample locations included with the sample events. Since location is required I cannot get past this.

I’ve been using wordpress and plugins for several years but I am not a programmer at all so I would very much appreciate some help in layman’s language if you don’t mind. I created the template using Artisteer and I suspect it may have something to do with my template.

Thank you so much for such a great plugin. I’m sure it will do everything and more than I need once I get it up and running. This is a new site I’m setting up to replace our yahoo group since yahoo is getting so squirly.

    Thanks for your help.

Sorry, I meant to add the exact wording of the error.

“Could not save the location details due to a database error.”

    Thanks.

To add more info about this, it also appears that I cannot add categories either though when I go through the motions it says that it was successful yet there is nothing there.

Also, I have installed the latest version of EM, 4.212. I apparently had an older version on another site but was never able to get it funcioning on there either. I don’t remember trying very hard to do so though, so I don’t know what issues I had then.

I’m using Chrome so I thought I’d try using a different browser to see if that made any difference but the same thing happened in Firefox.

And last, after I installed the plugin I get this message even though I have the latest plugin installed. “Events Manager upgrade not complete, please upgrade to the version 3.0.96 or higher first from here first before upgrading to this version. We made a screencast to help you out.”

Thanks for your help. I’ve looked at a lot of plugins and it appears that this one may be the only one to meet my needs as far as simplicity for the frontend user. I don’t need a complicated plugin. I’m trying to replace the database feature from yahoo groups. They’re used to using that and I need something on the website to use if possible. If I can’t get this to work I will look into just using a google spreadsheet or something.

Ok, I’ve made progress. I deleted and installed an older version as instructed in the video and checked the options after doing all of the upgrading and it is the correct version and I am able to add locations and categories.

Now that the events are listed, though, when you click on them you do not go to that listings page. In the documentation it suggests renaming/saving the permalink but that didn’t change anything. As it is there is no option to actually rsvp for an event (this is only for free events) and you cannot see any additional details about the event. I do not have this set up as the first or home page but it is a parent page.

I’ll just keep plugging along until I figure something out I guess.

version 3.0.96? do you have other installation of events manager?

This was a new install on this wordpress site. I wasn’t using it before. But I couldn’t find any information about which version might be the one I needed to start with to be sure I get all of the functions. I assumed that the latest version would include everything I needed for a new install but apparently it did not.

I ended up installing 3.0.9 and upgrading from there and I finally got it to let me add categories and locations.

I followed the video and checked the options to be sure it actually did upgrade to 4.212, which is the latest version and it is fully upgraded. However, I can see the events listed but I the ability to actually register isn’t working nor can I click on the event to see the complete information.

So it’s still not quite working. I don’t have any idea what else to do. I’ll be very disappointed if I can’t get this to work because I’ve looked at several others and none of them quite have what I need like this one does.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try it on a fresh install wordpress meaning no other plugins installed/activated and default theme activated?

No, I did not. I already had a few plugins installed. I looked at the list of conflicting plugins I thing, but I didn’t have any of the ones listed. I did disable a few that I had decided not to use but didn’t see a problem.

I’ll go ahead and disable the other ones to see if that solves the problem. Thanks for mentioning that.

That plugin list is not very comprehensive so certainly there’s some that we’d have missed out, with all the plugins out there (and so many updates to each), it’s pretty much impossible to keep an accurate list.
