# Plugin failed to update

 * I’ve tried to update a plugin, but got this error message.
 * “The update process is starting. This process may take a while on some hosts,
   so please be patient.
 * Updating Plugin Akismet (1/1)
    Downloading update from [http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/akismet.2.5.8.zip…](http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/akismet.2.5.8.zip…)
   Unpacking the update… Installing the latest version… Plugin update failed. An
   error occurred while updating Akismet: The package could not be installed. The
   plugin contains no files..
 * All updates have been completed.

 * If this is happening all of the time, then it sounds like there is a problem 
   with your current server’s configuration. You will need to speak to your hosts
   about that.

 * It was a permission issue on my server.
