Have installed the google xml sitemap plugin and it runs fine and says that sitemap file has been created and notified search engines.

The problem is that when I go to view the sitemap it does not display and comes up with the following error. http://www.creditcardscompare.com.au/sitemap.xml

“The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

The stylesheet does not contain a document element. The stylesheet may be empty, or it may not be a well-formed XML documen…

I’ve also tried it on another of my blogs and the same thing happens. Any ideas as to how to fix this. I’d really like to be able to view the sitemap.

    Thanks
    Sharon

  • youre missing at least one file.

    this one:

    /wp-content/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/sitemap.xsl

    it came with the plugin.

Hi, have checked thru my ftp program and this file is definitely uploaded to the server.
    /wp-content/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/sitemap.xsl

However, when I try to find it in the browser, it doesn’t show up. I’ve checked all the correct file permissions have been set to “666” for the sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.gz.

Any ideas what I can try next to resolve this problem.

    Thanks,

    Sharon

ok, except that those permissions arent necessary for that file.

that file, and all the other files in that directory ought to be 644.

the ONLY files that need that sort of loose permissions are the actual sitemaps themselves — thats the .xml file and the .gz or whatever.

    Hi There,

Yes, I’ve checked and all file permissions are set correctly.

Any ideas why these files are not there when I browse but are there when I look in my ftp program.

    Thanks
