# Plugin installed, but “wrong directory”-error upon activation

 * Hi, I have used the AMP-plugin for quite some time now. When I updated to 1.0.1,
   this error message came up:
 * > You appear to have installed the AMP plugin incorrectly. It is currently installed
   > in the sbb-guidepost directory, but it needs to be placed in a directory named
   > amp. Please rename the directory. This is important for WordPress plugin auto-
   > updates.
 * I completely deleted and reinstalled the plugin – same error. Should I in fact
   do what the message tells me and hard-rename the plugin-directory?

 * What is the directory name the plugin is in right now?
 * I’m any case, doing a hard rename of the directory would fix the problem. It’s
   possible you may have another amp directory that is empty which needs to be deleted
   first.

 * The dir name was sbb-guidepost. I deactivated the plugin, renamed the directory
   to amp, now it works without problems so far.
 * And no, there was no empty amp-directory.

   solution would be:
 * 1. Deactivate and remove plugin.
    2. a) Download a new copy from [https://wordpress.org/plugins/amp/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/amp/)
   and upload it to your site 2. b) Install a new copy directly from within WordPress
   admin by searching for AMP
