This was the only part I used of Jetpack, but the entire plugin really slowed down my site. In fact, that issue occurs when you upgrade to 3.3. I bet you’ll have the same problem with the original Jetpack if you try it (remember that present Jetpack Lite is based on the Jepack 1.2.1).
