# Plugin Stops Working After Updates

 * Each time the plugin gets an update it stops working. When going into the dashboard
   we get this message.
 * “WP Payeezy does not have a Transaction Key file saved. Please go into WP Payeezy
   Pay and press the “Update WP Payeezy Settings” button at the bottom of the screen”
 * Although it’s a quick and easy fix, at times we’re not available to update the
   settings and users are not able to process their orders. Any idea why this may
   be happening and is there a fix?

 * It’s happening because when WordPress updates a plugin, it firsts deletes the
   existing version of the plugin, including every file in the plugin’s folder, 
   including the php file that contains the Transaction Key. WordPress then installs
   the new version of the plugin. Because the file containing the Transaction Key
   is not generated until someone updates the plugin, the payment info sent to First
   Data will not have a Transaction Key.
 * The reason for this is security. If a third-party had access to your Transaction
   Key, theoretically they could use it to run unauthorized transactions.
 * My recommendation is to turn automatic updates off, especially for plugins.
