# Plugin update

 * Was using Version 5.3.6.1 with great satisfaction. Then my hosting provider forced
   a core update to 6.8.1 which crashed the site. Was able to get the site up again
   on the new core but Events Calendar was deactivated. When I try to activate the
   plugin I get “Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
   I see a new version of the plugin is available. If I install the newer version
   will it overwrite the existing dates / events that was in the original.

 * Hello, were you using WP 5, or EM 5?
 * I’d suggest updating for sure! Data shouldn’t be overwritten, some things should
   upgrade though as we’ve added a LOT over the years.
 * My suggestion is update to version 6, then 7. Take backups between updates!
