 * I was trying to update WP and plugins. I’m hosting on GoDaddy and managed to
   update WP from plesk. When I went to update plugins, I kept getting a 500 error.
   This is the full error code:
 * `Update Failed: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://
   www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> 500 - Internal server error. <!--
   body{margin:0;font-size:.7em;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
   background:#EEEEEE;} fieldset{padding:0 15px 10px 15px;} h1{font-size:2.4em;margin:
   0;color:#FFF;} h2{font-size:1.7em;margin:0;color:#CC0000;} h3{font-size:1.2em;
   margin:10px 0 0 0;color:#000000;} #header{width:96%;margin:0 0 0 0;padding:6px
   2% 6px 2%;font-family:"trebuchet MS", Verdana, sans-serif;color:#FFF; background-
   color:#555555;} #content{margin:0 0 0 2%;position:relative;} .content-container{
   background:#FFF;width:96%;margin-top:8px;padding:10px;position:relative;} -->
   Server Error 500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource
   you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.`
 * I’m guessing this is referencing some weird custom html somewhere. Any ideas
   on what to do? I disabled all my plugins and tried changing the theme, but am
   still getting this error.
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fplugin-update-500-internal-server-error%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)
   to see the link]_

 * Your site is up now. Did you fix this?
 * Errors like this are logged. Check the error log on your server. If you can’t
   find the log, please contact your host.
 * Meantime, enable wp_debug and wp_debug_log and after an error, look at wp-content/
   debug.log to see if anything gets logged there. [https://wordpress.org/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/](https://wordpress.org/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/)
 * You can also try this: Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of
   the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one
   to identify the source of your troubles.
 * If you cannot access wp-admin, there are other ways to [deactivate plugins](https://wordpress.org/support/article/faq-troubleshooting/#how-to-deactivate-all-plugins-when-not-able-to-access-the-administrative-menus).
 * Once you can identify the error with a plugin, you can then delete that plugin
   via FTP or your hosting control panel’s file manager app.

 * Thanks for your response Steven.
 * The site was more or less working fine to begin with, I’m just having an issue
   updating plugins and getting this error code in response. All of my plugins are
   currently disabled. I’ve toggled to other themes, but the error code persists
   whenever I try to update plugins again.

 * Turn on your plugins, one at a time, until you find the one causing the issue.
   And enable debugging (see the link posted earlier), so when/if it happens again,
   you’ll have some info about what happened.

 * I can activate/deactivate all of the plugins just fine. The issue is with updating
   them. Whenever I try to, I get the error initially listed. I’ll enable debugging

 * What plugins are you updating and how? Are you doing them one at a time or bulk?

 * Went through them individually, looks like Elementor was the problem. I deleted
   it and everything else seems to be updating and activating fine. Thanks for the
   help!

 * Spoke too soon… still getting the same error code whenever I try to install a
   new theme or plugin, but can activate/deactivate the rest of the plugins individually
   or in bulk with no issue. Gonna enable wp debug and see if I can get any more
   info

 * Also receiving this fun error message now:
 * `Installation failed: There has been a critical error on your website. Please
   check your site admin email inbox for instructions.Learn more about debugging
   in WordPress.`

 * Enabled debugging and retrieved this from the log:
 * `[19-Jul-2020 23:00:52 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 60 seconds
   exceeded in G:\PleskVhosts\diginativ.com\httpdocs\polyhedragames.com\wp-admin\

 * It sounds like you’re running out of some resource. Ping GoDaddy support and
   have them take a look.
