 * Hi There,
    Currently we are WP version 3.2.1 and want to upgrade to the latest.
   I have looked on the instructions on how to update WordPress, but I can’t really
   find an answer in regards to the plugins – Should the plugins be updated to their
   latest version before attempting the WP update?

 * No. Doing so may cause problems. Disable all plugin and switch to Twenty Eleven.
   Make a database backup and then carry out the core upgrade.
 * Before activating any plugins, upgrade any with updates, then activate them one
   by one.
