# [Plugin: W3 Total Cache] Browser Cache Not Active Message

 * Hey there,
 * We do not use a .htaccess file, opting to instead store that information in our
   httpd.conf for performance reasons.
 * With that said, I have added the browser cache rewrite rules to the httpd.conf
   file and restarted the server. I have turned on Browser Cache but receive a message
   that it is not active due to the inability to find the rules in .htaccess, which
   doesn’t exist at all.
 * Despite this, is Browser Cache actually on anyways and can I hide the message?

 * If you do not use .htaccess on your server browser caching won’t work unless 
   you know how to apply the rules manually. So hide the message.
