 * I’ve just installed and activated CDN in w3totalcache. It tells me “Maximize
CDN usage by modifying attachment urls or importing attachments to the media
library.” Can anyone explain in simple language what either of that means and
whether or not it impacts the post images?
 * ( FYI – my post images are hosted in a separate folder which is outside the wp
   directory. )

 * @abhim12- The “import attachments” tool imports images to the media library so
that they can be served from the CDN. If you want your post images (“hosted in
a separate folder outside the WP directory”) to be served from the CDN, you may
have to import them to the media library. First check to see if W3TC has already
identified them and uploaded to the CDN by right clicking the images on your
site and selecting “view image info”

 * [@robnalexpress](https://wordpress.org/support/users/robnalexpress/) – well,
my images are in a folder called “assets.” Now, what I have done is that I have
added assets/* in the custom files section of w3totalcache, and when I check
the images on the site, it does have the url beginning from cdn.xyz.com/assets/
   images….
 * So, what do you suggest now? Should I just leave that import thing or go ahead
   with that?

 * @abhim12- Sounds like you’re all set. It doesn’t hurt to run that tool, but if
all your images are being served from CDN already, it’s probably not necessary.
