Title: Plugin will not update Last modified: April 8, 2025 --- # Plugin will not update * Resolved [James Monroe](https://wordpress.org/support/users/jhmonroe/) * (@jhmonroe) * [1 year, 2 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-will-not-update-4/) * — i am running latest WP * — all other plugins update fine * — attempting to update backwpup breaks my site and makes it get stuck in maintenance mode * — this is the warning i receive after the update fails: “Update failed: error” * — then site is stuck in maintenance mode (which of course I can remove via FTP):“ Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. The client uses Network Solutions and it may be an issue with them. The failed update one time showed a message about OpenResty being an issue. Guessing this is a host issue. They were unhelpful and tried blaming wordpress/plugin and directing me to their paid support. I get a message about OpenResty. However, I am able to install and update all other plugins in the client’s site. So I’m not sure why backwpup in particular is failing on Network Solutions and getting this OpenResty error. I still suspect it may be their problem not yours.
