# Plugin Won't Install From Admin Area

 * I released a plugin today called [Civil Footnotes](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/civil-footnotes/).
   It installs fine if you download from the Plugin Directory page and upload to`/
   wp-content/plugins/` but it refuses to install through the admin interface. I
   get the following error text:
 * > Downloading install package from [http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/civil-footnotes.1.0.zip…](http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/civil-footnotes.1.0.zip…)
   > Unpacking the package…
   > Installing the plugin…
   > The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.
   > Plugin install failed.
 * I’m really confused what the problem is. Is it because I just released it today?
   Something to do with WordPress’s backend? Any help is greatly appreciated.

 * It looks as though the plugin within the SVN repo is with a folder, that could
   be the problem. There is no need for the ‘civil-footnotes’ folder within [http://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/civil-footnotes/trunk/](http://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/civil-footnotes/trunk/)

 * Yep, that was the problem. This being my first foray, I was confused and thought
   the proper structure was `/tags/1.0/plugin-directory/plugin.php`, but it is `/
   tags/1.0/plugin.php`
