# [Plugin: WordPress HTTPS (SSL)] Can't communicate with server

 * I’ve successfully installed an SSL certificate on my host, but I can’t seem to
   get this plugin to work.
 * My test page is [https://portlandrescuemission.org/ssl-test/](https://portlandrescuemission.org/ssl-test/)
 * Depending on the browser, I get different error messages. But the basic error
   seems to be a server communication error / unable to establish a secure connection
   to the server.
 * I’m using port 443 and confirmed with my web host that this is the correct setting.
 * Not sure what to do.

 * I’ve tested the port using [http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/](http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/)
 * Port 443 is open.

 * I’ve also made sure to install the appropriate Verisign Intermediate CA Certificates.
   Still no change.

 * Your problem is in the error your receive when visiting the URL you posted.
 * > You attempted to reach portlandrescuemission.org, but instead you actually 
   > reached a server identifying itself as [http://www.portlandrescuemission.org](http://www.portlandrescuemission.org)
 * So change your site URL to [http://www.portlandrescuemission.org/](http://www.portlandrescuemission.org/).

 * There were a few issues related to this problem, but you’re right. Was able to
   get the URL updated to include the “www”. Also needed the host to install both
   the VeriSign certificate AND the VeriSign Intermediate certificate on the root
   of the server.
 * Now everything seems to be working great.
