# [Plugin; WordPress SEO by Yoast] Empty description

 * Hello,
    i got an issue with empty description in some posts. Here are some exemples
   of what is set in the excerpt field ‘ààààààà à’ => description is empty ‘ààààààààà’
   => description contains the excerpt ‘ààààààà_à’ => description contains the excerpt‘
   ééééééé é’ => description contains the excerpt
 * Is there an issue with some special chars and space character ?
    Thank you

 * Issue seems to be solved by using ‘u’ flag in
    `$string = preg_replace( '/\s\
   s+/u',' ', $string );` in function `wpseo_replace_vars()` in the file `wpseo-
   functions.php`

 * If I do that modification, I get no description tag at all.
    Do you have any 
   suggestions?

 * Are you using UTF-8 ? the last u is a modifier only for UTF-8
