 * No, why would you want to cache the gravatar? They’re served really quickly by
   gravatar.com!

 * Indeed but sometimes not quickly enough to the other side of the ocean. I was
   thinking for a fully optimized experience

 * Well, they load pretty quickly here in Ireland. It should be easy enough to make
   a caching plugin for Gravatar images but it’s way outside the scope of WP Super
   Cache!
