 * Hey there,
 * I was just trying to install and configure XML Google Maps, because I want to
   use the geotagging-features combined with NextGen-Gallery.
 * The settings page tells me to go to [http://code.google.com/apis/maps/signup.html](http://code.google.com/apis/maps/signup.html)
   and receive an API Key. However, on that page, that option no longer exists.
 * So I tried if the plugin works without an API Key, but it doesn’t. At the position
   where the map should be I’m just getting a blank, white area. The source code
   tells me that there was an iframe created which is linked to plugins/xml-google-
   maps/xmlgooglemaps_show.php?myid=1; but that php generates nothing. The source
   code of the iframe is empty.
 * So… what do I do now?
    Is there a way to get the plugin working without an API
   Key? Did I do some stupid mistake?
 * Greetings from Germany,
    Andi.

 * Hi Andi and Silvio,
 * you go to [https://code.google.com/apis/console/](https://code.google.com/apis/console/)

   where you can click on “API Access” (menu at the left) there you can create API
   keys and restrict the use of you key to certain web sites.
 * I think you need a Google developer account for doing so – but you can create
   one without cost.
 * Happy XML Google Mapping!!!

 * I created a Google Maps API v2 key (and a v3 too) and I used it inthe plugin,
   but when my map shows up I get this message:
    “Google has disabled use of the
   Maps API for this application. The provided key is not a valid Google API Key,
   or it is not authorized for the Google Maps Javascript API v2 on this site. If
   you are the owner of this application, you can learn about obtaining a valid
   key here: [http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/v2/introduction.html#Obtaining_Key&#8221](http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/v2/introduction.html#Obtaining_Key&#8221);
   any suggestion?
 * the problem may just be that I’m still working on localhost and I didn’t uploaded
   the site yet?
    Thanks!

 * obviously I solved just after posting the question…
    on the API console I had
   to “create a new browser key” giving a reference to my site (even if local) and
   THAT worked with the plugin!

 * Thank you very much for your detailed tips.
 * I have to be honest, I didn’t check if they work – I found out that I was not
   able to use XML Google Maps because it doesn’t work with multi-sites.
 * Therefore, two months ago I changed to Mappress ( [http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/mappress-google-maps-for-wordpress/](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/mappress-google-maps-for-wordpress/)).
   It doesn’t give me the option to use the geotagging stuff from NextGen, but I
   found that I don’t really need that. Maybe I’ll try XML Google Maps again someday,
   I will then report about that.

 * Hi badehaubendealer,
 * I am using XML Google Maps on a multisite installation (WP 3.3.2 and XML Google
   Maps 1.14.0) without problems. Just “Network Activate” it and then you can adjust
   the settings per domain …
