• I have two plugins (akismet and wp-phpmailer) in their own subfolder in the plugins folder (wp-content/plugins) but neither is listed on the Plugins Management page. The message on the page says “Couldn’t open plugins directory or there are no plugins available.”

What the heck? I’ve searched on the forum for answers, but it seems I’m the only one that has experienced this very basic problem.

  • the only way I can duplicate that is to completely rename the wp-content/plugins directory.

Thank you whooami, but I’m not sure that helps me. I’m still hoping to get an answer.

One reason I really want to get my plugins working is to solve my main problem of WordPress not sending emails with passwords to people who register. Nor does it hold comments, nor does it notify the administrator when a comment is posted.
