# Plugins not using templates

 * Hi
   I’ve tried 2 different sermon plugins (the main plugins available for this
   function) on this church website (WP 6.2 theme twenty twenty three). In both
   cases the plugin creates it’s own page /sermons and subpages to display the content.
   However, these pages do not seem to use the site template pages or transfer the
   site header/footer.
 * The developers of Advanced Sermon plugin suggested work arounds involving hooks
   and child themes. I’m not tech savvy enough to do this and thought the idea of
   WP is that people like me with some knowledge could create good sites.
 * I’ve found the block editor generally straightforward to use for my simple site
   but without fixing this issue wont be able to use this theme (or similar 6.2
   based theme) to complete the project (annoyingly this is almost the last thing
   to finalise).
 * Can someone help me fix this?
 * thanks!
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fplugins-not-using-templates%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)

 * Not sure what 2 plugins you’ve tried, but I use Sermon Manager ([https://wordpress.org/plugins/sermon-manager-for-wordpress/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/sermon-manager-for-wordpress/))
   for our church. Currently we are using the free version of Astra, but I tried
   Twenty Twenty-three in our test site and there is a setting to show the header/
   footer on the Sermon archive page. So you might want to try that plugin.
 * If you decided to use that plugin and you need help, post your question on the
   support section and I’ll try and help you (I don’t work for them) as the support
   is lacking lately.

 * Thanks Mike
 * We are using Sermon Manager on our current site but this plugin got hacked a
   few months ago and our then web dev suggested we should switch to avoid any future
   problems as it wasn’t. Are you aware of any issues of this sort with SM before
   we switch back to it (or indeed if an issues was identified and resolved)?
 * FYI I tried both the paid isermons and free version of Advances Sermons plugins.

 * No, I’m not aware with any security issues with SM. I’ve always used a security
   plugin since I got hacked 15+ years ago.

 * Mike – are you using the paid or free version of Sermon Manager as I can’t see
   the option relating to header/footer you mentioned within the plugin? Without
   this the page has no formatting! [Sermons – Dunstable Baptist Church (websitehome.co.uk)](http://s946405789.websitehome.co.uk/sermons/)

 * Free version of SM and using free version of Astra.
 * Go to the Dashboard > Sermons > Settings > Advanced and find “Theme Compatibility”.
   You need to check that one and save it.

 * thanks again. Now I have site formatting but none of the sermon manager plugin
   layout on the page…

 * Since this isn’t a Twenty Twenty-three issue, if you have more questions I suggest
   posting your question on the SM support section and I’ll see if I can help.

 * [@hikinmike](https://wordpress.org/support/users/hikinmike/) Thanks for chiming
   in to help out [@dbcjs](https://wordpress.org/support/users/dbcjs/) 🙂
   If the
   original plugin you mentioned isn’t compatible with block themes like Twenty
   Twenty-Three (i.e. themes that use the [Site Editor](https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/site-editor/))
   and you aren’t comfortable using the technical workarounds the plugin developer
   suggested, you might want to use a classic theme instead. If you prefer to use
   default themes, the last classic theme was Twenty Twenty-One.
 * Or if you do go back to the other plugin that Mike mentioned, their forum is
   indeed the best place to get specific help with it, as he suggested.
 * I’ll go ahead and mark this thread as resolved for now.
