# Plugins will not update

 * I’m new to WordPress and I have an issue with 4 plugins, which need updating.
   They are **Elementor**, **Elementor** **Pro**, **Rank Math SEO** and **Starter
   Templates**. When I click on ‘update now’ I get the following message: Update
   failed: -1.

 * I’m getting the same issue, with the same plugins. Also, if I hit the refresh
   page or click on anything in the dashboard it goes to “maintenance underway” 
   error page. Also if you go to my website is says “maintenance underway” and it
   takes about 5 minutes to come back online. I called my hosting provider and they
   were unable to help.

 * **Solution:**
 * This issue is being caused by a bug in the Starter Templates plugin that has 
   now been fixed.
 * If your site is stuck in maintenance mode, you can fix that by deleting the “.
   maintenance” file in your main WordPress directory (probably /public_html)
 * To update to the fixed version of the plugin:
    1. Deactivate the Starter Templates plugin (since it’s breaking the updater)
    2. Update the Starter Templates plugin to 3.1.26 or higher
    3. Reactivate the Starter Templates plugin
