Hi there,
I hope you don’t mind my throwing in my two cents. I’m not a fan of Pods — it’s not user-friendly enough. I really like WCK Custom Post Types, Taxonomies & Custom Fields — and Custom Content Shortcode has just added support for it 🙂 Perhaps this would be a solution for you to consider…
Cheers!
Pods already has it’s own shortcode for fields / forms / loops / templating. Also, if your pod is a custom post type, it’s already supported by Custom Content Shortcode handling.

Thank you all for the feedback.
As seen in Pods’ documentation, there is a powerful shortcode/template tag system built in, that can do much more than Custom Content Shortcode.
To be honest, I would prefer to keep this plugin as “generic” as possible, to work with standard custom post types, fields, taxonomies. Support for other plugins can become endless, with all the different ways to store and access data.
I’m excited to learn about what’s under development in the WP Metadata UI / API project. It makes sense to have these CMS features standardized and built into core. I’ll be following its progress, and would love to contribute if I can.
