 * Is there a way to show a post summary or description instead of an excerpt of
   the post if that makes sense

 * What would the different be between them?
 * You can input a different excerpt into the “Excerpt” meta box for your post.
 * If you don’t see that meta box, click “Screen Options” at the top right of the
   edit post area, and check the box next to “Excerpt”.

 * So now it just takes the first 30 words or so out of the article.
 * What i would like would be a description like “this post is about dogs and keeping
   them” or whatever
